Drama alumna nominated for Olivier Award

Drama alumna Rachel John has been nominated for an Olivier Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Musical for her role as Angelica Schuyler in Hamilton. 

Rachel John graduated from Roehampton in 2002 after completing her degree in Drama and Theatre Studies with English Literature. Since then she has gone on to perform in an array of West End shows including; The Lion King, Sister Act, We Will Rock You, Rent, Memphis, The Bodyguard and now Hamilton.

Hamilton follows the life of Alexander Hamilton, the youngest of the founding fathers of America. Rachel plays Angelica Schuyler, the powerful and independent sister of Hamilton’s wife, Eliza Schuyler. The Olivier nominations were announced at the beginning of March, revealing that Hamilton has rewritten Olivier Award history with a record-breaking 13 nominations, which mirrored its achievements on Broadway, where the musical also made history in garnering 16 Tony Award nominations.

We are delighted to announce that Rachel will be returning to Roehampton next week to share her story of success. The talk will be held in the Jubilee Theatre where she studied Drama and Theatre Studies. Dr Susan Painter, who will be hosting the talk said “We are very excited to welcome Rachel back to Roehampton and to celebrate her successful career and nomination for the Olivier Awards”.
