Themed ‘The Politics of Feeling’, this special issue of Granta, guest edited by Appignanesi and Devorah Baum, focuses on creative responses to the extreme emotions that threaten to engulf our political culture.

Granta is the premiere UK based literary quarterly magazine, publishing new fiction, non-fiction, poetry & photography, and invites in a guest editor with special expertise once every couple of years.

The issue includes new writing from Man Booker International prize winner Olga Tokarczuk, Pulitzer-prize winner Hisham Matar, David Baddiel and Hanif Kureshi, poetry from T.S.Eliot-prize-shortlisted Nick Laird, and an extended interview with psychoanalyst Adam Phillips, among others.

Granta has previously featured an interview piece on Appignanesi & Baum’s film The New Man, as well as Baum’s critical writing. Appignanesi says, “the current global politics of Brexit, Trump and Russia is one where extreme feelings could be said to have possessed our politics. Yet we also know that repressing feelings our often makes them return more aggressively. We want to curate a set of creative reactions that come at this conundrum in fresh ways, and help take us out of the echo chamber.”

Granta 146: The Politics of Feeling was launched at the London Review Bookshop on February 13 with contributor Peter Pomerantsev.
