Dr. Kat Gupta nominated for prestigious award after co-editing ‘Non-Binary Lives: An Anthology of Intersecting Identities’
Dr. Kat Gupta, lecturer in English Language and Linguistics at the University of Roehampton, has been nominated for a Lambda Literary Award in the LGBTQ Anthology category.
Dr. Gupta co-edited ‘Non-Binary Lives: An Anthology of Intersecting Identities’ with psychologist Dr. Jos Twist, queer and non-binary academic Dr. Ben Vincent, and author Meg-John Barker. Out of thousands of nominations, the anthology was one of five finalists for the award.
The anthology pushes the narrative around non-binary identities further than ever before as a powerful collection of essays that represents the breadth of non-binary lives across the boundaries of race, class, age, sexuality, faith and more.
Leading non-binary people share stories of their intersecting lives’ how it feels to be non-binary and neurodiverse, the challenges of being a non-binary pregnant person, what it means to be non-binary within the Quaker community and the joy of reaching gender euphoria.
For over thirty years, Lambda Literary has championed LGBTQ books and authors. Since their inception, the Lambda Literary Awards ceremony has consistently drawn an audience representing every facey of publishing. The Awards have ranged over many categories, reflecting the wide spectrum of LGBTQ books, and from the very first year they have made the statement that lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans stories are part of the literature of the nation.
Upon receiving the nomination, Dr. Kat Gupta said:

As a non-binary person myself, I saw things as if through a many-faceted crystal: here was something that was so much like my experience, and yet here was something startlingly, beautifully different.
As an editor, I saw my role as helping writers articulate their story. It was important that the writer’s unique voice and perspective shone through. We’d work together to find effective ways of phrasing sometimes very complex concepts and in doing so, feel our way towards understanding.
