Roehampton filmmaker awarded grant from Arts Council England for climate action film

Josh Appignanesi, Senior Lecturer in Film has been awarded £15,000 by Arts Council England for a new feature-length film.

The film, The Current Climate, will respond creatively to the environmental crisis, collaborating with leading authors, poets and artists to bring to life the way in which our psychological climate is intimately connected to both the political and meteorological climates.

Josh says “It’s no accident that as our climate gets hotter, our emotional and political climate is overheating too. Bringing together some of our foremost writers, creators and cultural activists, the film will articulate our warring feelings around climate breakdown and political freefall – admitting our guilt, despair, and grief as well as our hope, and so opening the possibility of change.”

The Current Climate has been made possible by public funding from the National Lottery through the Arts Council England. Filming is ongoing into 2021, encompassing protest movements, literary events, and intimate discussions.
