Roehampton senior lecturer premieres new film at Edinburgh International Film Festival

Josh Appignanesi, Programme Convenor and Senior Lecturer of BA Film at the University of Roehampton has premiered his new feature ’Husband’ at the Edinburgh International Film Festival.

Co-directed alongside his wife Devorah Baum, ‘Husband’ is a relationship comedy about a married couple. “The husband has to accompany his wife on her first book tour in New York City, except he’s reluctant, envious and useless at it” claims Appignanesi.

“It’s a kind of ‘docu-fiction’, taking our own lives as a leaping off point. I’m the eponymous husband of the title and the joke is squarely on me.

“It’s really about what you might call ‘male fragility’.”

The Edinburgh International Film Festival has been a champion of emerging British talent throughout its history presenting the world premieres of formative films of Bill Forsyth, Danny Boyle and Stephen Frears and many more.

Appignanesi said “Edinburgh is an amazing place to bring out the film as it coincides with the overall Edinburgh Festival. The Fringe, the Book Festival and more. The buzz is enormous.

“We ran into writers we knew and actors we’ve worked with who were up doing stage work. It’s terrific and audiences were electrified.”

Josh’s previous work include documentary feature The New Man, The Infidel and his award-winning debut feature Song of Songs. Josh also co-wrote the Hollywood romcom All Roads Lead To Rome starring Sarah Jessica Parker.

‘Husband’ is set for theatrical release in the UK from November 2022 and will then be available online thereafter.
