Building and enhancing organisational resilience: Before and after COVID-19

Dr Rodrigo Souza is a Senior Lecturer in Accounting and Risk Management at Roehampton Business School, whose study titled ‘Building and enhancing organisational resilience: Before and after COVID-19’ has recently been published by the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA).

Dr Souza’s study seeks to investigate the effect of the pandemic on businesses organisational resilience - aiming to help management accountants to prepare for forthcoming threats, whether anticipated or unforeseen.

The study was conducted through a series of 41 semi-structured interviews with risk management professionals and sheds light on the strategies used to build and enhance organisational resilience before and after COVID-19 became a global pandemic.

Dr Souza said: “This research is particularly important as the world faces an accelerated rate of change, and businesses need to anticipate, adapt, and respond to numerous disruptions.”

“It highlights triggers of organisational resilience, measurements applicable before, during and after crises, and uncovers the complexity and dynamic of managing and enhancing organisation's resilience capabilities over time.”
