Faculty of Business and Law hosts Careerfest events

The Faculty of Business and Law hosted two on-campus employability events for students during this year’s Careerfest (1-5 November).
These events bought together current students with graduates and leading professionals across different industries to provide them with an opportunity to network and demonstrate the career opportunities open to them as Roehampton graduates.
Organiser Laura Scanga, who is Head of Graduate Employability at Roehampton, stated: “Over 240 students attended the Employer Forum and Professional Networking events which shows students are actively engaged in their future.”
At the Employer Forum, students received a welcome address from Roehampton Vice-Chancellor Jean-Noel Ezingeard. A panel of industry guests including Phil Walker, current Chair of Council and ex-Chief Operating Officer at CapGemini, Atul Mehta, Senior Vice President and Managing Director EMEA Publicis Sapient and Shani Newbold, Founder and Managing Director Cadence Partners, discussed the skills and behaviours that employers look for.
Four Roehampton graduates from both the Business School and Law School also shared their personal career stories. Business School graduate Guerdine Zampangi said: “Thank you for inviting me. It is the highlight of my week.”
Current Roehampton student Rafael Pimenta and his line manager Chris Oldacre, Global Client Director at IBM, spoke about his placement experience. Mr Oldacre said: “It was great to be back in the real world and meet some of the amazing talent heading for the workforce.”
At the Professional Networking event guests included Business Society Vice President Bindy Enkhbold and Law Society President Mehreen Syed, as well as representatives from the business community including a Richmond Council Business Hub representative and members of Wandsworth Chamber of Commerce.
There were also representatives from a range of professional bodies present including the CIM, CIPD, APM and CILEX who answered student queries about qualifications, memberships, and events. The CMI was also available virtually to answer queries.
Student Shadath Kausar who attended the event said: “Thank you very much for organising these valuable sessions and giving us access to meet people from these great organisations. It’s been a pleasure to learn from the experiences of the speakers and I also appreciate the opportunity to ask questions to the panel. I look forward to attending future events.”
