This year’s competition was sponsored by WeAre8, a social media app. Entrants were challenged to explore ways WeAre8 can scale up and show that social media can be a kinder, better place.

Third-year BSc Marketing students at Roehampton Business School, Lia Martinez Fernandez and Michela Spotti entered as ‘Team Brainstormers’ and were awarded second place at the final of the competition on 17 March, out of a selection of strong teams from across the UK and internationally.

Discussing their experience of the competition, Team Brainstormers said: “It’s been a tough task, but we’ve learnt so much through the process and we deeply enjoyed the whole experience, as well as working together! The feedback from the judges really boosted our professional and personal confidence. We are so proud of it and thankful for the fantastic support we have had from our University lecturers and Southlands College staff.”

The team will share a £600 cash prize and both students will receive a one-year complementary membership of the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Discussing the competition Laura Chase, Chief Commercial Officer, WeAre8 said: “Team Brainstormers delivered an excellent presentation with some unique insight and innovative ideas, which clearly made an impression on the judging panel.”

Now in its twelfth year, The Pitch is an international competition designed to recognise and reward the marketing talent of the future. It sees students from leading UK and international universities compete to respond to a real-life marketing challenge, in a bid to win the title of 'Marketers of the Future'.
