Law student Meg Celiku, who is President of the Law Society, won the award for Outstanding Contribution to the Faculty of Business and Law. This is awarded to students who have supported others in the Faculty of Business and Law and improved the experience for our student community.

Dr Maris Kask-Polacko, Deputy Dean of Faculty of Business and Law, and Head of Law School, was awarded the Susanna Wesley Award. This prize is named in honour of the mother of John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church.

Susanna is widely known as “the Mother of Methodism”. A direct line can be drawn between the educational style of Susanna Wesley and the Methodist Church’s approach to education, and therefore to the founding of Southlands College.

The Susanna Wesley Award is presented to a woman of distinction from the staff community, who has provided strong leadership and commitment to a values-based approach to education and formation.

Dr Maris Kask-Polacko said: “"I am immensely grateful and so very moved by this massive acknowledgment. It is an honour, and I am humbled that my work has had such an impact on the community.

"This would not have been possible without the support and encouragement of my team in the Law School and amazing colleagues in Southlands College. I am grateful for the continuous inspiration and for having created an environment where female leaders can thrive."
