Roehampton Academic to discuss the Coronavirus Crisis with Shadow Minister

Professor Molly Scott Cato and Dr Alan Whitehead will meet via Zoom to discuss the future of environmental policy and what the global pandemic will mean for the planet.

Professor Molly Scott CatoProfessor of Green Economics and former Green MEP for South West England and Gibraltar has organised aonline discussion The Corona Crisis and the Climate Emergency: Risks and Possibilities’. Professor Molly Scott Cato will be joined by Dr Alan WhiteheadLabour MP for Southampton and Test and Shadow Minister for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy 

Professor Cato has spent several decades developing the discipline of Green Economics, with the aim of ensuring economic success does not threaten the environment. She has also worked on policies and in sustainable finance to shift investment away from fossil fuels and towards renewables and sustainable sectors. 

The COVID-19 epidemic has highlighted the need to find innovative answers to issues that have been at the forefront of modern politics, including the climate emergency. The globalised lockdown had an immediate impact on air pollution and carbon emissions, this online event will discuss whether we can we take these improvements into the future. They will also be discussing what the experience of lockdown means for environmental activism and governmental policy on the environment, and what lessons can we learn from this period to ensure a greener, more sustainable future.
