Roehampton announced as an official partner of new Early Years Hub

Through the provision of Early Childhood Studies CPD, the University of Roehampton has been selected as one of the official partners of the new Mayor of London’s Wandle Early Years Hub. 

The facility is one of three hubs set up in the capital to increase the number of two-year-old children accessing quality and free early years education. It also aims to improve the quality of this provision for children and increase parental and community knowledge of education and childcare support entitlements. A particular focus will be on the most disadvantaged two year-olds, those with special educational needs and disabled children.

The hub will offer access to accredited training to staff working in childcare settings, which will give them the skills, knowledge and confidence to support children who have special education needs and disabilities. As a result of this training, centres will be able to provide an increased number of places for eligible children. Roehampton staff and students will be working with the hub over the next two years and is well placed to use this opportunity to promote early years as a rewarding career for graduates.

Peter Flew, Director of the School of Education said, ‘With our expertise in research and teacher development in early childhood education, special educational needs and disabilities, and working with parents, we are looking forward to contributing to this very important project’.

The Wandle Early Years Hub, will be led by Chesterton Primary School in Battersea. It will serve both Merton and Wandsworth boroughs as one. City Hall is set to provide funding of £175,000 for each hub, with the others in Barnet and Newham, as well as a toolkit to share learning across the capital.
