Four students aged 16-18 are taking part in the programme at Roehampton, where they are having the opportunity to experience scientific research first-hand and gain an insight into studying science at university.

Students that participate in the programme are taking subject masterclasses led by academics in Roehampton’s laboratory facilities and learning about the link between emotions and the immune system from a variety of different scientific perspectives. Their research experience will be complemented by the mastering of different transferable skills including how to plot and analyse data, write academically and present their findings in the practical work.

Professor Fulvio DAcquisto, who teaches Immunology at Roehampton and has coordinated the programme, said ‘We are delighted to welcome these students for two weeks, who are so enthusiastic to start on this programme. Our teaching style offers many activities for students to gain practical laboratory experience, increase their knowledge of science, and meet with our supportive academics.’

The University of Roehampton is a partner of in2scienceUK, an award winning charity which empowers students from disadvantaged backgrounds to achieve their potential and progress to STEM and research careers through high quality work placements and careers guidance.

Staff in the Department of Life Sciences undertake world-class research which changes lives and furthers our understanding of science.
