Currently a Ph.D student at the prestigious University of British Columbia and involved with the diabetes prevention research groups, Azize Nur Yildirim has been nominated for CN Student of the Year Award by Sue Reeves, Head of Undergraduate Studies and Student Experience in our School of Life and Health Sciences.

Sue Reeves describes Azize as a student with “boundless energy and enthusiasm for evidence-based nutrition.”

After qualifying as a Dietitian in Turkey, Azize studied for an MSc Clinical Nutrition at the University of Roehampton, a course that is accredited with the Association for Nutrition where she achieved a Distinction.

Azize said: “I hesitated to do my master's degree in the middle of the pandemic and was afraid of not being productive enough. However, all lecturers and my supervisor were there to support me. Even simple tasks are important to learn collaboration and are a great opportunity to observe experiments in the lab.”

Azizie’s excellent MSc research dissertation focused on the role of high protein diets on glucose control in adults with prediabetes. With her supervisor’s support, Azize became a co-author of a study published in the journal of 'Nutrients' as well as other nutrition relation projects.

Azize was always keen to do further training in lab techniques, develop her academic writing skills as well as assist with data collection in collaboration with Dr Nicola Guess, which involved analysing nutrition facts of plant-based offerings in UK supermarkets and restaurants.

The winner will be announced in the September issue of CN Magazine.
