The University of Roehampton welcomed its new nursing students to the brand new Clinical Simulation Centre (CSC) on Tuesday, giving them their first chance to see the University’s newest teaching environment.

In attendance were the Vice-Chancellor, Jean-Noël Ezingeard, Head of Nurse Education, Paul Newcombe, and Head of Life Sciences, Caroline Ross. They were joined by staff from the practice partners, where students will undertake their placements, members of the Service User and Carer Partnership and representatives of nursing's main professional bodies in the UK, Unison and the Royal College of Nursing.

The CSC is designed to simulate various clinical and community environments. As well as a six-bed hospital ward area, there are also versatile spaces which simulate the kinds of locations that community nurses practise in, such as consulting rooms and even patients' homes.

Paul Newcombe, Head of Nurse Education, said, ‘We were delighted to welcome our new students to the CSC. It’s been a really valuable opportunity for the students to meet some of our practice partners and service users, and get a feel for the new space’.

Sharmin, a new nursing student, said ‘Roehampton is like a family. The staff made me feel really at home right from the interview, so I knew straightaway that Roehampton was the place for me’.

The University of Roehampton offers a unique BSc Adult Nursing which focuses on community and primary care. Applications are now open for September 2020.
