The University of Roehampton hosted its inaugural Roehampton Mentoring Awards recently at Elm Grove Hall.

The 2017 Mentee of the Year Award winner was Imojen Jean—a final-year student, completing a course in English Language and Linguistics within the Media, Culture and Language Department.

Imojen said, ‘I think this service is amazing! I spoke to a few mentors and they were all really friendly. I really hope that people take advantage of it, because it definitely is really helpful’.

The 2017 Mentor of Year Award winner was Naomi Westerman, a playwright and Roehampton graduate from the Life Sciences Department, who has been a mentor for several years. Naomi graduated in 2009 with a BA in Anthropology and Journalism.

Naomi said: ‘I’m extremely proud that both of my mentees are very successful. As lovely as it is to get this award - it is really all about the mentees’.

The winners received a certificate signed by the University of Roehampton’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul O’Prey and Chandresh Meghji, the Deputy Relationship Director for London and the South East for Santander Universities. The winners also received a £50 Amazon Voucher Card to celebrate their achievement.

This scheme could not be possible without the support of all mentors and Santander Universities UK. Last year, the University renewed its partnership with Santander Universities UK until 2020, which will see the bank donate a further £225,000 for career development initiatives, scholarships and study abroad bursaries. More than 500 students and recent graduates have benefited from over £500,000 worth of funding since the University first partnered with the bank in 2010. By 2020, over £725,000 will have been invested into student careers development with Santander's support.

The event was a great success and the Mentoring Team hope to run this event annually. Since Roehampton Connect’s launch just over a year ago, the platform has reached over 1,200 members, including over 240 active mentors who are ready to offer over 600 mentoring relationships.
