New Library officially opened by University’s Chancellor, Dame Jacqueline Wilson

The University's state-of-the-art library building was opened by Professor Dame Jacqueline Wilson in a ceremony featuring Roehampton staff and students alongside acclaimed literary figures

The Library was formally opened by the University's Chancellor, Dame Jacqueline Wilson, at a ceremony that also featured Chair of Council Sir David Bell, Pro-Chancellor the Very Revd Dr John Hall and Vice-Chancellor Paul O'Prey.

The event was attended by members of the University’s Council, Roehampton staff and individuals and companies involved in the creation of the iconic new building. Among the companies invited were the architects, Feilden Clegg Bradley Studios, and construction firm Osbornes.

During the ceremony, two leading literary figures were awarded honorary degrees by Roehampton. The renowned writer Dame Hilary Mantel, author of Wolf Hall, and award-winning poet Sean O’Brien were both recognised for their contributions in the field of literature and creative writing, two subjects in which the University has academic strengths.

The University of Roehampton library opened to students in September 2017. It provides state-of-the-art resources, including hundreds of thousands of books, a wide range of computer suites and 1200 study spaces. It has been nominated for the 2018 Royal Institute of British Architecture London Awards.
