The trophy is designed to champion the role of women in sailing, who now represent a third of the 8,000 competitors at Cowes Week. It was awarded on 7 August.

One of Tracy Edwards’ many achievements came in 1989, when she was the skipper of the first all-female crew to sail around the world, in her boat ‘Maiden’. She has since won Sportswoman of the Year and been awarded an MBE.

She has recently completed the refurbishment of Maiden, and has announced details of a new all-female crew, who will start a three-year world tour, leaving from Southampton in September 2018.

Tracy Edwards graduated with a degree in Psychology from Roehampton in 2012.
