The TECHNE consortium was originally established in 2014 to provide scholarships which fund research across a range of arts and humanities disciplines. The latest round of funding will enable the consortium to continue this work into the next decade.

Professor Ted Vallance, Director of the Graduate School at Roehampton said ‘the renewal of the TECHNE doctoral training partnership for a further five years represents excellent news for Roehampton. Our involvement in TECHNE has already seen 31 of our doctoral researchers supported through the consortium. TECHNE 2 will fund a further 57 studentships per year across the consortium with 20% of those allocated to collaborative doctoral awards. Roehampton’s excellent track-record in collaborative, interdisciplinary research leaves the University well-placed to take advantage of the opportunities presented by this award.’

TECHNE brings together nine higher education institutions in London and the south-east, including Roehampton.

The vision and the training offered by TECHNE emphasises the interweaving of critical thinking, making, and reflexive action in the craft of research.  Non-university Partners are integral to this vision:  TECHNE’s emphasis on postdoctoral careers beyond HEIs will nurture supportive exchanges with staff in a variety of Partner organisations ranging from The National Archives to Heathrow. Twenty-percent of TECHNE studentships will be involve collaboration with, and joint supervision by, non-university Partners.
