Sounds of Intent highlighted as one of UK's 100 best university breakthroughs

A major University of Roehampton research project has today been named as one of the UK's 100 best breakthroughs for its significant impact on people's lives.

Sounds of Intent, which is led by Professor Adam Ockleford from the School of Education, investigates and promotes the musical development of children and young people with learning difficulties.

Through the project, which was set up in 2002, in conjunction with the Royal National Institute of the Blind and the Institute of Education, a framework for musical development in students with learning difficulties and autism was developed. Since its launch in 2012, the framework has been used schools across the country.

The 100 Best Breakthroughs list, prepared by Universities UK, highlights the immense contribution to society made by research undertaken across UK universities.
