Growhampton wins Sustainable City Award

Growhampton won an award at the Sustainable City Awards last week. 

Celia Briseid, Growhampton Project Manager, entered the project into the 'Healthier Places' category which looks to reward "best practice in promoting working-environments and cultures which benefit the well-being of workers or citizens, such as work-space, facilities, and social and community initiatives".

The Sustainable City Awards celebrate the best examples of innovation and good practice, for a smarter, healthier and more environmentally friendly world. Coordinated and managed by the London Sustainability Exchange, the awards give recognition to and rewards best practise in environmental management and sustainable leadership.

Celia said: "We are very proud to have been nominated for this award. We were up against some truly amazing projects and winning the award acknowledges the hard work of our staff and students that volunteer with the project. It sends a message of hope in these times of significant challenges for people and the planet. It motivates us to move forward and develop to keep engaging young people with food sustainability, on campus and beyond".

The Growhampton project works as an educational tool and community builder, developing employability skills, bolstering youth development and enhancing physical and mental health whilst improving diet and overall public health. Growhampton is a sustainability programme with a big focus on food.

It is delivered by Roehampton Students' Union and was established in September 2013 with funding from the NUS Students’ Green Fund.
