The University of Roehampton has opened brand new esports facilities. The new Roehampton Esports Arena, based in Southlands College, provide among the best university facilities of its kind in the country. They are designed for students wanting to compete at a high level and provides a space for students who want to meet other gamers, socialise and relax.

The Arena has 20 high-specification gaming PCs, professional-standard peripherals and facilities for live streaming. They are equipped with i7-7700K, and GTX 1080 graphic cards, 240hz esports monitors, lightweight mice and mechanical keyboards with optical switches, supported through a partnership with professional esports equipment provider Zowie.

The Arena will host practice sessions, social events and tournaments. There is also a machine dedicated to live streaming. It’s equipped with an audio mixer, condenser microphones for social streams and a GoPro webcam, plus dual monitors and an RTX2080 graphics card.

The esports programme is run by a dedicated Esports Co-ordinator, who in conjunction with staff from the Department of Media, Culture & Language, will offer students a wide range of opportunities to create original content about gaming and esports, and advice on presenting, editing and curating content. This will provide essential skills for student seeking to get into the esports, gaming or wider media industry as content creators.

Roehampton recently enrolled the first students in Europe to receive esports scholarships, who will train, compete and create content in the new facilities.
