Dr Kaz Brandt and Dr Marco Sandrini have been awarded a research grant from the British Academy to investigate enhancing memory in older healthy adults using transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS).

Dr Kaz Brandt who is leading the project said: “One of the most common complaints in older adults is memory loss and given the rise in the ageing population, it is imperative to both understand memory decline in this group and to design intervention tools to mitigate these effects. The current research will therefore explore whether tDCS can enhance memory with a focus on familiarity processes that are linked to one of the first areas of the brain affected by Alzheimer’s disease. Outcomes of this research will therefore form the basis for the future design of an intervention tool for memory loss in dementia.”
