Working alongside Roehampton’s Student Services, our School of Psychology is offering our current final year undergraduate psychology students the opportunity to gain a certificate in Mental Health First Aid.

Many of our psychology students progress into mental health professions. This exciting opportunity will aid our students in building their professional skills and credentials ahead of graduation.

The training will teach students how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue. They’ll learn to recognise the warning signs of mental ill health and develop the skills to confidently approach and support someone, whilst also keeping safe.

1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem of some kind each year in England. 1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (like anxiety and depression) in any given week in England. The training will help all students who sign up support their family, friends and colleagues going forward.

Dr Vaithehy Shanmuganathan-Felton, Head of Education and Student Engagement in our School of Psychology added, “many of our Psychology students gain graduate level jobs in the mental health sector, whether it’s working within the NHS or the third sector. We wanted to support our students by providing them a unique and exclusive opportunity to further develop their knowledge and skills that are valued by employers in this sector, but also support them to reflect and develop self-care strategies to manage their own mental health.”

Our undergraduate psychology degrees allow our students to study the real-life applications of psychology and develop advanced knowledge and skills for their careers. Find out more here.
