Prof. Mick Cooper wins Division of Counselling Psychology Annual Award for Research Supervision

Mick Cooper, Professor of Counselling Psychology at the University of Roehampton, has been recognised with the British Psychological Society Division of Counselling Psychology’s Divisional Prize (2022) in the supervisor/mentor/trainer category. This award honours Cooper’s outstanding contribution to research supervision and development of others.

The BPS Division of Counselling Psychology’s mission is to advance the profession of Counselling Psychology in promoting the well-being of our diverse society. The Divisional prizes acknowledge and celebrate the wealth of work being conducted by counselling psychologists in all settings throughout Britain.

Mick Cooper is also a Chartered Psychologist; and an internationally-recognised author, trainer, and consultant in the field of humanistic, existential, and pluralistic therapies. This is a worthy achievement and recognition of Cooper’s hard work, dedication, and commitment to numerous research supervisees. He said: “I was really delighted to receive this award—it meant a lot to me. It was totally out of the blue and the first thing I did was tell my mum! It felt like a real recognition of the work that a lot of us do as research supervisors to support, encourage, and guide students in their research. It is one of my favourite parts of the academic role, but also really demanding. The award was also a recognition of the fabulous work of the Roehampton PsychD team, which has been one of the leading counselling psychology programmes in the country for several years.”
