Roehampton launches Arts Therapy Degree Apprenticeship

Our School of Psychology will be building on its tradition of training programmes in the arts and play therapies by offering a new route to train as an arts therapist (music and drama) through the arts therapy (degree) apprenticeship.

A degree apprenticeship gives people the opportunity to get a paid-for degree while gaining sector experience and earning a salary. Degree apprentices do not pay for their tuition. On completing the course, apprentices will be able to register as a qualified and professional arts therapist (music or drama), ready for practice.

The School aims to begin delivery of the arts therapy apprenticeship (music and drama) in January 2025, subject to HCPC approval. Participants on the apprenticeship will need to apply through an employer or through a degree apprenticeship post. Individuals will not be able to apply directly to the training. Further details, along with information sessions, will become available in early 2024.

Dr. Jonathan Isserow, Head of Partnerships and Community Engagement in our School of Psychology said: "‘We are delighted to have successfully become a provider to train music therapist and dramatherapist, through the apprenticeship route. This further builds on our portfolio of offering arts and play therapy degrees within the School of Psychology. As the apprenticeship is a paid-for degree, it will substantially broaden the opportunity to train as an arts therapist. We also look forward to working with employers to co-construct the curriculum, to ensure that our graduates have the skills, behaviours and knowledge to work safely and effectively as arts therapists in a variety of clinical settings."
