The School of Psychology hosted an on-campus employability afternoon for final year Psychology undergraduates and our 2021 graduates.

This event brought together current students, alumni and professional organisations from a range of industries to highlight the career opportunities open to Psychology graduates.

Talks were given by Roehampton Psychology alumni Nick Kituno, Correspondent at the Health Service Journal, and Sarah Boateng, founder of IGEA Enterprise, a nonprofit organisation with a mission of delivering quality education to girls in rural parts of Africa. They spoke to students about their journeys after Roehampton, offering advice and lessons they’ve learned in their professional careers.

Several employers also attended our careers fair, including Mind, The Priory Group, The AICS Group and Achieving for Children, giving students the opportunity to get professional advice and meet a variety of employers.

More than 150 psychology students attended the afternoon events. One student said “there were so many opportunities, and variety of them. Everyone was so welcoming and positive. I had an incredible time.”

Dr Vaithehy Shanmuganathan-Felton, Head of Education and Student Engagement in our School of Psychology said “We know that our graduates progress onto postgraduate studies and diverse careers which includes working in Mental Health, Education, the Third Sector, Human Resources and other professional sectors. We wanted to bring together employers and provide our students with access to these networks to help them embark on their career post-graduation.”

Dr Kaz Brandt, Head of Year 3 and Employability Lead in the School of Psychology added “Given the disruption Covid-19 has caused in the last few years, we wanted to organise an in-person Careers Fair for our Year 3 students to give them the opportunity to connect with each other and staff outside the classroom setting as well as to inspire them to all the opportunities their Psychology degree could offer them. There was a real buzz in the atmosphere and as Head of Year 3, it was wonderful seeing all my students in one room being excited about their future prospects.”

Our Psychology degrees provide our students with the skills and knowledge they need to achieve their career ambitions.
