The trustees of the Southlands Methodist Trust have agreed to support Dr Alaster Douglas's application for £3,500 for a research study: Bridging the ethnic minority gap between educational development and doctoral supervision. Fieldwork for the study is taking place during this academic year.

The project's data is being generated from interviews with supervisors of ethnic minority doctoral students across a range of disciplines in three UK universities. The study is an empirical research project that utilises a developmental activity to initiate new directions in doctoral supervisory activity. Its findings aim to prepare supervisors to engage with students as promoters of relational working.

Dr Alaster Scott Douglas is a Reader in Education and Professional Practice.
