Foundation Years

Why should you apply?

If you don’t have the traditional qualifications or do not meet the requirements to go straight onto an undergraduate degree, one of our degrees with a foundation year will help you progress towards a higher-level qualification in a subject area you’re interested in.

We welcome applications from students of all ages and backgrounds, with or without work experience.

Undergraduate courses with a foundation year

We offer the following undergraduate courses with a foundation year:

How you'll be taught

You are taught over two semesters in the year; autumn and spring.

You’ll complete six modules in total, all worth 20 credits each. The modules will build your confidence and give you the key skills you need to complete your chosen degree.

The modules include:

  • Academic English and study skills – you’ll learn study skills, such as how to structure an essay, to reference and how to use library resources, like journals. All of which will help you to develop your confidence in reading, academic writing and presentation skills
  • Subject-area modules – which will be related to the course you are studying

The whole course is taught in a way that can fit around your other commitments. Once you’ve completed the modules, you’ll be able to move into your first year of your degree.

How you'll be supported

You’ll have regular contact with your academic guidance tutor to help you develop as well as face-to-face and online careers and study support.

You’ll also find the right help quickly and easily with our one-stop, 24/7 support service, Nest.
