Skills

Our priority is ensuring that you leave with a valuable skillset. This incorporates;

  • Providing ambitious Teaching and Special Needs Assistants a career boost by gaining university-level training to work with SEND children.
  • Understanding the role of Teaching Assistants.
  • Understanding how to support learning in the classroom.

These three strands will ensure that you are ready for the practical realities of working within the education sector.

All UK students offered a place will be eligible for a DfE short course loan to cover their tuition fees.

Study Support Bursaries (SBB) are available for students whose circumstances present a barrier to study. If you wish to apply for this funding you will be asked to complete a bursary application form to assess your eligibility when you accept the place. SBB payments can be made for the following purposes:

  • Study support costs such as books, course material, trips not included in course fees.
  • Equipment not included in the course fees.
  • Childcare for students with parental responsibilities who are at risk of not starting or continuing learning because of childcare costs.
  • Learning and learner support for disabled students.
  • Emergency support funds for students (which can only be provided in exceptional circumstances).
  • If the course necessitates a student being present for face to face activities (for example, to attend a clinical setting) and they are unable to reasonably access the activity by transport, temporary residential costs may be permitted.

How you'll learn

The programme runs over two terms. Students succesfully completing it will be awarded a Certificate in Lifelong Learning. It consists of two modules, each bearing 20 undergraduate credits, which will be assessed by criteria that reflect students' current job roles – for example it might involve evaluating an intervention, making a resource for a student or reflecting on the different techniques for providing support in the classroom.
